How to link Aadhar card with Pan card easily
Amid all the protests and uncertainties, the government has made it mandatory for all taxpayers to link their Aadhaar card with PAN starting July 1. The Income Tax Department of India has kept the process simple for all taxpayers. A UID or the unique identity number of a taxpayer can be linked to your PAN account by simply sending an SMS to either 567678 or 56161.
The SMS-based linking facility would only complete successfully if both Aadhaar card and PAN card are registered with an identical name. For instance, if your name on Aadhaar card is RAMESH SHARMA while your PAN card bears the name R SHARMA, then it is highly likely that the process would terminate unsuccessfully. To send the text, type UIDPAN followed by your 12-digit Aadhaar number and after a space input the 10-digit PAN number. As mentioned, send the text to 567678 or 56161. For example, UIDPAN 123456781234 ANWP1234AN, where 123456781234 is the Aadhaar number and ANWP1234AN is the PAN number.
However, the authorities have also translated a simplified link process online on official government website. Taxpayers can log onto ‘incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in ‘ or click here , Once you are on the page, input your PAN card number, Aadhaar card number and your name as per the Aadhaar card. Check on the required box if the birth year information stands true per the record. Enter the Captcha code to verify and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ to complete the process. “After verification from the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), the linking will be confirmed. In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided, Aadhaar OTP (one-time password) will be required,” the IT Department said.
Taxpayers need to ensure they have the mobile number active which is registered with the Aadhaar database as the OTP will be sent to the registered number only. As mentioned earlier, the government has made it mandatory for taxpayers to provide Aadhaar number or the enrolment number of Aadhaar application while filing IT returns, effective under the Finance Act, 2017.
Also, from July 1, your Aadhaar card number will be mandatory if you wish to apply for a new PAN card. Linking Aadhaar number and PAN is important to “seamlessly avail online, a world of income tax facilities” according to authorities. The Aadhaar card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) while PAN cards are issued by Income Tax Department of India.
